When the Rock Island Railroad was puth through, Fredrick Koester, who owned all of section 26 in the precinct of South Fork, thought the railroad would go through his land. He had a small area on the extreme southwest corner of the section platted for town sites. He named it Koesterville. A few houses were there for a time, then moved to Dubois.
